Alabama football player arrested for criminal law violation

A reserve player for the University of Alabama's football team was recently arrested on allegations of driving under the influence. These types of criminal law violations are quite serious, and potential legal consequences can be steep. In addition to potential jail time, some people may see their employment and educational opportunities impacted.

The freshman student has yet to actually play a game, but he is currently listed as a reserve offensive lineman. It is unclear if, in light of these allegations, he will have the opportunity to play any time soon. Alabama's coach, Nick Saban, stated that they have yet to take action against the player and are instead focusing on gathering information.

According to police, the young man was performing donuts in his vehicle in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant. He apparently struck another vehicle while doing so, and then asked the vehicle's owner to refrain from contacting police. At that point, he allegedly left the scene of the accident. However, the owner of the other car provided authorities with the tag number, and he was stopped a short while later.

It is unclear how Alabama police determined that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident, although typical methods include field sobriety testing, Breathalyzer tests and blood draws. He was arrested and booked into an area jail, where at last update his bond was $1,000. Defendants hoping to minimize the potential impact of their charges may want to take timely action, which is often essential when dealing with these types of criminal law matters.
